Peaceful rooms, proper Yorkshire breakfasts and lovely views a short uphill stroll from Holmfirth - made famous by ‘Last of the Summer Wine’

A Victorian gentleman's residence just a short walk up the hill from the centre of bustling Last of the Summer Wine Holmfirth, still with its working Picturedrome cinema (touring bands too), arts and folk festivals, restaurants and shops. Attentive hosts look after you when the Whites are away. Peaceful bedrooms have a mix of contemporary, Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces, caramel cream velvets and silks, spoiling bathrooms and lovely valley or garden views. A full choice Yorkshire breakfast will set you up for a lazy stroll round the charming gardens, or a brisk yomp through rural bliss.

Local points of interest from
Mike & Sue Ardley:

  • We are just a 5 minute walk downhill to the centre of Holmfirth, heart of 'Last of the Summer Wine' country! Take a scenic bus tour of the character's favourite haunts including Sid's Cafe & Norah Batty's cottage. NB. Bill Owen (Compo) is buried next door
  • Right in the centre of Holmfirth, the Picturedrome is perhaps the best intimate music venue in the North of England. Make a night of it and stroll to one of the many excellent eateries before moving on to listen to and watch one of your favourite bands.
  • We are on the edge of the Peak District National Park offering magnificent scenery, exhilarating walks, testing cycle routes and inspiring photographic opportunities! Blow away the cobwebs and take a walk with the celebrated local artist - Ashley Jackson
  • Let the train take the strain. Pop into Manchester for a day of culture or retail therapy. Try dim sum in China Town, explore a gallery or museum, shop in the Trafford or Arndale Centres, or catch an Imax film at the Printwork's multiscreen cinema.
  • Take a tour of Holmfirth's Vineyard or visit the world famous Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Explore the popular monthly Farmers' Market. Throughout the year Holmfirth hosts many festivals of Art, Music & Food and Drink. Raining? drop down to the Mining Museum
  • If it is peace and quiet you seek, then where better than at Sunnybank. Find a quiet corner of our garden, relax, enjoy afternoon tea, watch the birds - tree creepers, jays, woodpeckers are regular visitors in the leafy canopy shading the flower borders.

"It’s obviously a very beautiful spot, but the rooms and facilities were exceptional for a B&B and you’ve clearly both put a lot of thought and effort in getting everything just right. It’s the small details that make a big difference in my experience! If I’m up that way again I will definitely come back and stay, as well as recommending it to as many people as possible. "

"We stayed at Sunnybank for two nights as we were invited to a party locally. We would thoroughly recommend it, lovely solid old house with high ceilings, stylish decoration, comfortable furniture, interesting books and wonderful hosts, who can't do enough for you. The breakfasts were really excellent! "

"We spent three nights in The Lodge and soon realised what a good choice a stay at Sunnybank had been. Mike and Sue were ideal hosts and the accommodation and individually cooked breakfasts can only be described as first class. It was clear from the attention given to detail, that the aim was to provide for every need of guests and, for us, that was comfortably achieved. We cannot speak highly enough of this accommodation and are pleased to recommend it, without reservation, to others. Mavis and Graham, Portsmouth"

"My partner and I stayed for two nights in the Valley view suite. I had opted for the added luxury package. We were met by Mike and Sue on arrival and shown to our room which is absoloutley beautiful. Fresh flowers, fresh fruit, a bottle of bubbly on ice, a decanter of port and big fluffy dressing gowns really added to the wow factor. Views from the room are amazing especially while soaking in the luxurious bath. Fantastic tea tray with good selection of drinks and biscuits. The bed is very large and very comfortable, we both slept soundly and awoke refreshed. Very good choice of breakfasts."

"Picking the lovely little town of Holmfirth based on Last of the Summer Wine TV show, we did not expect such lovely accommodations. The rooms were spacious, well-appointed, and quiet - almost too quiet! From the Valley View room we watched the sunset light up the farmlands across the way. We slept well, ate well, and loved our walks in Holmfirth. Parking was available and easy to use. Peter and Anne were great fun and provided a delicious breakfast cooked to order, and High Tea was way too much for us to eat at one go. Really enjoyed our stay! Note: area is very hilly."

"Really enjoyed our couple of days here, stayed in The Valleyside room nice clean and comfortable. Jason and Rachel were never too far away if we had a question or needed something but left us to our own devices if we didn't, ideal. What with great cooked breakfasts, beautiful weather a fantastic gig by Spiritualized at The Picturedrome and a lovely part of the country all in all a great time was had. Wishing Jason and Racel all the best in their new ventures."

"Have just arrived back home to something akin to a scene from 'Dude where's my car' courtesy of our teenage boys left holding the fort, never trust a face that looks like butter wouldn't melt ! Luckily we had such a relaxing break that it failed to break our very uplifted spirits. The house is stunning as was the scenery it is surrounded by, on arrival we were met immediatley and given all the details needed to make our stay hassle free. The room was very clean and modern, filter coffee and mini fridge to keep own drinks cool a very nice touch, and much appreciated extra. Service was friendly without being intrusive and the breakfast was exceptional. If you are looking for a relaxing peaceful getaway then this fits the bill perfectly. Would happily stay again and would definatley recommend to others. Thank you for a lovley weekend break."
