The Experience
A lovely old barn! Plenty of space for two to sleep, up the oak stairs on the mezzanine gallery; fine for up to four more, on two big sofabeds below. There’s a peaceful atmosphere to the whole place and the rugged brick and flint walls, exposed beams and vaulted ceiling create a slightly ecclesiastical feel. It doesn’t feel over-converted but it does feel comfortable: old-fashioned radiators belt out the heat, there’s friendly furniture and good rugs on wooden floors, and curtains or blinds at all windows – to encourage long lie-ins. The kitchen and downstairs shower room are neatly to the point and there’s a sensible drying room. And out of the south-facing French windows is a really lovely view, of the Nar river valley and fields beyond. You’ve the run of a pretty, private garden (with herbs for the pot) and are on the edge of the very attractive village of Castle Acre. Peddars Way runs by, along Roman lines, and you’re not far from the coast. There’s a piano, books and jigsaws for evenings in; your kind hosts can advise on all things local.

We had three blissful nights at The Barn, and loved it so much, we look forward to returning. Warm, immaculately clean and very comfortable (particularly the bed), we had everything we could possibly have needed. The charming hosts were very helpful with local information, and we much appreciated the delicious homemade cake on arrival. The Barn has been beautifully and sensitively converted, set in a wonderful garden, and extremely peaceful. We would thoroughly recommend The Barn and Castle Acre - with so many interesting things to see, and so much you can do on foot.

A fabulous place to stay in a pretty village with walks from the door. We received a very warm welcome from the owners (who also provided a delicious homemade fruit cake and a bottle of wine!)and the barn had everything we needed with a good layout for two people. A week without the TV along with trips to Holkham Hall and beach, Sandringham, the town of Swaffham, Thetford forest, visits from my Carbrooke based family and warm sunny weather made for a PERFECT week. Thank you, we would certainly recommend this property.

We had a brilliant stay in The Barn..warm and cosy but atmospheric and a beautiful conversion of a really lovely old building! We took the 2 dogs who enjoyed wonderful walks locally including round the Priory. So many places to walk and explore and we left a number undone so will definitely be going back. It was great to be able to come and go as we pleased but our hosts were very obliging and helpful with all our questions. The little garden was perfect for the dogs to go out even though the weather was against us. Excellent!

The barn is vast. One huge, airy, and light living space with two large, squishy sofas. The double bed is on the mezzanine floor up a short staircase... a fantastic hideaway for two!
