Ski to the door of this idyllic alpine chalet; a blazing log fire and a Savoyard meal await. The setting is a dream all year round

This hamlet of four old wooden houses (two chalets, two farm buildings) is high up, impossibly pretty, detached from the bustling world, with views to lift spirits and a deep silence in which to contemplate such beauty. Ski-in, ski-out doesn't get much better than this: you are a stroll from the top of a chair lift and a quick slide from the bottom of several, so you can stop skiing when you're ready for a blazing log fire and a bite. Tea and cake will be waiting as you walk in the door, and dinners are convivial and delicious. And how about this: a night time ski randonnée? Set off with Jean-Francois the guide, with skins on your skis, a lamp on your head and breakfast on your back. As you climb to the top of virgin peaks, you can watch the dawn breaking and open the croissants and coffee on the top of the Aiguille Vert. La Ferme du Soleil overlooks the small ski resort of Chinaillon, one of the best preserved villages in the Haute Savoie – the word 'idyll' really does apply. Big, cosy, beautiful, open and convivial – another dream realised.

"I absolutely love this chalet. The location is perfect with stunning mountain views out of every window. It is right in the middle of the resort so you are in the thick of it during the day but as soon as the lifts close at 5pm you are left alone on the mountain which brings an enormous sense of peace and tranquillity. Highlights are the variety of great food served in the evenings and the fantastic view of the sunset from the chalets main balcony every evening. "

"This is a beautiful rustic chalet on the piste with exceptional views and real charm. The chalet hosts were skilled cooks and we were very well looked after. The somewhat remote position is amply compensated by the advantages of being away from the village. Very good for parties who all know each other well and make their own entertainment. "

"La Ferme du Soleil is the loveliest ski chalet I have stayed in - cosy, generous, inviting. The main room is dominated by an open fire you can lounge around and has plenty of inviting sofas, nooks & crannies for afternoon games of chess and bananagrams whilst enjoying delicious cake after a day on the slopes. The hosts were fantastic, friendly, relaxed and excellent cooks. The bedrooms are charming and beds comfortable. What more could you ask for?!"

"The only drawback of La Ferme is having to leave its charm and tranquility to tackle the slopes. Never has the temptation to stay at home on a skiing holiday been so great! La ferme is, quite simply, sublime. "

"My husband, family and I visited the chalet and had a wonderful few days holiday. The position of the chalet was perfect, with great views and away from the crowds! The food was delicious, interesting menus and presented beautifully. We couldn't fault the service and found the hosts were helpful and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation had a rustic charm which we loved - clean and tidy and all the facilities that we needed. I would highly recommend this chalet for anyone looking for a special place to stay."

"A fantastic chalet high up in a small French ski resort... ski in ski out accommodation doesn't get better than this - nor closer to the slopes! Run by a charming chalet hosts who cooked fabulous food for us all week, and ensured tea and cake was waiting as we walked/skied in the door after a hard day on the mountain! Will definitely be going back again."

"I write to you on a very rainy day in the Alps, but do not be disappointed as the rain brings with it a new spectacle and mood with every blink of an eye. Above me is broken cloud with the threat that the sun may shine her fingers upon us and below me is lovely fluffy cloud caressing the side of every alp as it makes its way to pastures new. I wonder if this is how the gods lived on Mount Olympus!! I thank you kindly for accommodating us, my spirit is refreshed and my soul is charged. Steven"
