Rugglestone Inn - Pub in Devon
Widecombe in the Moor, Newton Abbot, TQ13 7TF, Devon
England,
United Kingdom
Beside open moorland, within walking distance of the village, is a 200-year-old stone pub whose two tiny rooms lead off a stone-floored passageway; few of the daytrippers who descend on this idyllic village make it to the Rugglestone Inn. Low beams fill an old-fashioned parlour with simple furnishings and a deep-country feel. Both rooms are free of modern intrusions, the locals preferring cribbage, euchre and dominoes. The tiny bar serves local farm cider, while Teignworthy Moor Beer and Dartmoor Brewery Legend are tapped from the cask. From the kitchen comes proper home cooking – ploughman's lunches and soups, lamb shanks, fresh fish; across the babbling brook is a lawn with benches and peaceful moorland views. A modest slice of heaven.
