Last cache: 22:35:43, Wednesday 22 October 2014

Portgate, EX20 4PZ, Devon
England, United Kingdom

Andy and Rowena are members of the Slow Food movement, offering consistently delicious, well-priced West Country food for all the family

You are welcomed on the way in and thanked on the way out. The passion Andy and Rowena have for food and wine is infectious and the awards they are gathering is proof of their commitment. Find a long bar with a wood-burner at one end, a maroon carpet, blue walls and a strawberry blond cat named Reg. Outside: a large deck with rich rolling views. The Whitemans are members of the Slow Food movement so cheeses are the West Country's finest, fish, meat and vegetables come from exemplary suppliers, and wines are chosen from small (global) growers. Be it roast belly pork with cider jus, Devon lamb steak with roasted vine tomatoes, or simple fish and chips, flavoursome food is what the chefs deliver. There are kids' portions too and it's never overpriced.
