The Three Horseshoes - Pub in Dorset

Last cache: 17:31:57, Monday 30 March 2015

Powerstock, Bridport, DT6 3TF, Dorset
England, United Kingdom

Drowsy village inn, very authentic, with valley views and steaks and scallops cooked to perfection by chef-patron Karl. Dog-friendly, too

You're lost in deep, drowsy Dorset with hollow ways and ancient woodland around you, while a two-mile hike brings you to Eggardon Hill, its summit an Iron Age fort with huge Dorset views. As for this timeless little inn, its Victorian exterior gives way to pine cladding, polished Windsor chairs and a charming thatched bar. Best of all is Karl's cooking, so grab a pint of Palmers, then sit in front of the fire and weigh up the virtues of each plate before tucking into something decidedly different. From the kitchen flows award-winning food: Dorset snails on bone marrow toast, lemon sole with foraged sea vegetables, doughnuts with coffee ice cream and chocolate sauce. Soak up the views from the terrace outside; if you come on a clear night, the starry sky will amaze you.
