Red Pump Inn
Clitheroe Road, Bashall Eaves, Clitheroe, BB7 3DA,
England, United Kingdom
Down meandering lanes in the stunning Ribble valley is a handsome roadside pub with a south-facing terrace tumbled with flowers. In the bar: stone floors, an open fire, richly worn oak settles and tables, books scattered here and there, and shuttered windows with green views. Beers include Moorhouses and Timothy Taylor; pints are poured for the shoot during the season. For lunch there are two rooms to choose from: one cosy with dark red walls, the other with bare oak tables and settles by the wood-burner. In the evening, sit in the large, beamed, candlelit restaurant. The menu is big in season on local game (with a rare sighting of jugged hare!), there are homemade faggots with parsley mash and cabbage, rich rabbit casserole with seasonal veg, and home sausages made with herbs from the garden and served with champ and minted gravy.
