The Berkeley Arms
59 Main Street, Wymondham, Melton Mowbray, LE14 2AG,
England, United Kingdom
In the middle of the village of Wymondham is an exemplary pub. Enter a low-beamed, pine-tabled, light-filled room, with an original terracotta tiled floor and a fire at the carpeted end. It's a wonderfully intimate place to drink and eat, and if you prefer to be more formal, there's a stylish dining room too. Owners Louise and Neil met at Hambleton Hall so the food is special and the suppliers are lovingly listed. Pigeons, tomatoes and rhubarb come from Ray and Pam Elsome; mint, marrows and flowers from Ken Hill. We tried the pâté of rabbit, pork and prune; the pasta with pickled walnuts, reblochon cheese and truffle oil; the pear and ginger crumble with pear sorbet – all were exquisite. In summer you can stroll in the garden, take in the pretty views, retreat to the smokers' shelter. Staff are friendly, polite, perfect.
