This fascinating little foodie place, housed in a former law court dating from 1750, has been refurbished with wit and style

Near the higgledy-piggledy streets of Shepherds Market is the handsome Punchbowl, now spread over three floors and cunningly fusing Georgian tradition with up-to-the-minute glamour. Inside this former Court, the ground floor is a smart country-city pub, while upstairs is an art deco dining room. Up again to The Club for private parties in an opulent Victorian setting. At the bar or in the dining room, law-abiding Londoners sample pints of IPA Deuchars or the pub's own tipple '1750' with house ale-battered catch of the day, minted pea purée and hand cut chips, perhaps, or a hearty burger. You can feast on the likes of Norfolk chicken breast with forest mushrooms, celeriac, roasted garlic and truffled tarragon sauce, and there may be time to sneak in a rolo chocolate & blood orange fondant with honeycomb ice cream before the last cry of 'order'.
