Ye Old Sun Inn
Main Street, Colton, Tadcaster, LS24 8EP,
England, United Kingdom
A pretty, low-lying Yorkshire village, and a spick and span 18th-century pub with a welcoming porch. Young enthusiastic owners have kept the bones – rustic beams and red brick fireplaces – but sprinkled a bit of bling here and there in sumptuous curtains and tapestry cushions. There's an admirable dedication to good local ingredients, too; rabbit from the Ledston estate finds itself in a pie (like poor Peter's father) with thyme, ginger and wild mushrooms, while trio of local Yorkshire pork might be crisp belly with red cabbage, toad in the hole and pork fillet wrapped in smoked ham. They're also known for top chips. There's a brand new dining space, a cosy snug to sit in with the papers, and a rambling garden with views across open fields.
