Wonderfully restored village pub with hearty foodie menus, great walks, and an excellent wine list. Historic Chester is close for shopping

Jerry Brunning (co-founder of Brunning and Price) thought he'd hung up his hard-won spurs and retired, but then he saw the Swan in Marbury and couldn't resist the chance to work his magic here. You'll be glad he did, as you sit outside on a summer's evening, sipping a glass from the pub's artisan producer in Bordeaux and watching the sun set over the fields. If that doesn't tempt you, take a pew at the bar (constructed from old chemistry lab tables) and order from the excellent daily changing menus which include braised beef and oxtail steamed suet pudding, vegetarian option - chestnut mushroom and smoked cheese pot pie - leaving room for nicely Northern puddings like baked apple and sultana charlotte with stem ginger custard. You're three miles from Whitchurch, seven from Nantwich, while a 30 minute drive takes you to Market Drayton, and 40 minutes to Chester. A treat of a pub.

"It was great to be back in Marbury after several years. When I was a kid, I used to visit Marbury where my grandparents lived working on the estate at the big house across the mere behind the Church in Marbury. My gransparents are buried in the churchyard, along with the ashes of my parents. At the pub I was told that you ae possibly planning to develop some accomodation there and would be very interested to stay there if that happens. Please inform me if it does. Marbury is such a great and tranquil village. - Peter McGrath."

"We have a narrowboat and visited the Swan at Marbury as it is 10 minute walk from the Llangollen Canal. Our table was on the very spacious patio. There was plenty of room for our dog. The menu was very interesting and the food and service exceptional. "

"What a stunning pub! Well worth the drive through country lanes to find it,tucked away in so much lush farmland. Our pies were huge, and very tasty! We'll be back for outdoor drinks on a summer's evening, the outside area is so attractive."
