Definitions:
'Weddings' also covers civil ceremonies; if a wedding venue does not have a licence we say so. 'Parties' covers one-off events such as a lunch, dinner or larger gathering, as well as house parties (often self-catered but some places can provide a chef or meals to order). 'Meetings' covers smaller business gatherings, 'conferences' larger events with appropriate facilities. Some places offer accommodation, but many can be used for one-day events too. Some also offer outdoor or team-building activities.
'Event Spaces' are the total number of spaces at the venue that can be used for an event, plus marquees or yurt or tipi, and the maximum number of guests who can be accommodated in each type of room layout in a single space (including a marquee where shown). These room layouts are described as 'Board' (a single large table, for business meetings or a dinner party); Cabaret (a series of individual tables - the usual layout for a wedding 'breakfast'; Theatre (rows of seats with one or more aisles, for wedding ceremonies or conferences); and Reception (for stand-up parties).
'Sleeps' indicates the maximum number of people (excluding extra beds for children) who can sleep at the venue or in adjacent accommodation. We specify whether this is on a bed and breakfast (B&B), dinner, bed and breakfast (DBB), self-catering (S/C) or catered basis, or a combination of these. Not all of the venues have on-site accommodation - click on the 'special places to stay' tab to find one of our places nearby.
Catering
We specify where guests must use the in-house team, or choose from a list of approved caterers. 'Own caterers' means that guests are allowed to self cater or bring their own caterers.
Price bands
Most places will tailor an event to suit the needs of the party, therefore our price bands are intended as a guideline only. Do check with the organisers what is included before booking and ask for a written quote and details of their cancellation policy.
