"HELP!" says Alastair
Tomorrow I am wading into the freezing ocean at Battery Rocks in Cornwall in the company of a stoic 70-year-old woman who swims there every day. For unmentionable reasons I feel bound to stick to the plan whatever the weather. Does anyone have any tips that might save me from agony and total humiliation?
OK – the first obvious tip is 'don't do it'. Any others? Goose fat? Very hot breakfast? Chilli oil? I am worried for my heart.

Good luck anyway and bet you'll feel great when you get out!!

My Goodness, talk about timing! With the Atlantic drift I'm sure the sea will be a few degrees above freezing, but even so... Suggest 3 wet suits at least - keep breathing and hope your heart can take the shock. Good luck Alastair!

Thanks Amanda. I'm sure Alastair will say a little prayer, especially as anything other than trunks is verboten!
