From a high terrace near Ronda you contemplate a panorama of oak forest, almond and olive groves and the distant Grazalema mountains. Guy stumbled across El Tejar, once a tile factory, when out walking over 20 years ago and turned it into a deliciously labyrinthine series of spaces built up and down steps and steep stairs. Its décor is inspired by his travels in the East and Andalucía's Moorish past: Kashmiri rugs, Rajastani throws, carved Moroccan mirrors, beautiful pots from Fez. It definitely feels like home, thanks to books and magazines, paintings and Guy's shots of exotic lands. But best of all are those views through the greenery of the terraced areas, stretching southwards to the peaks. The four airy bedrooms look south too, and have excellent beds, big wardrobes, CD players and cooling fans. Francisca, your friendly housekeeper, cleans and tidies each morning (if that's what you'd like) and can prepare meals. If you're looking for a smaller place there is Dar Hajra ('House of the Rocks') higher up; sculpted around a limestone outcrop, it has an infinity plunge pool and more sublime views.
