A family business
Championing sustainability has always been Alastair’s passion and he stood for parliament as a Green Party candidate, founded Avon Friends of the Earth and was vice-Chair of the Soil Association. His efforts to promote sustainability have led to the company being honoured with a Queen’s Award for Sustainability. It was also voted Independent Environmental Publisher of the Year – twice.
Alastair handed over the Sawday's reins to his son, Toby, in 2010 - though he's still very much involved as Chairman and can sometimes be found swimming in the office pond when the weather is nice.
Toby’s busy embracing the digital and breathing new life into our online projects, while keeping the company ethics at the heart of everything we do.
Inspected and selected
We are making new discoveries all the time. New places and new owners, wonderful people we'd love you to meet. Our choices are ours alone, and of course feedback from our guests is hugely important.
We've met every owner, seen every bedroom and bathroom and, on our lucky days, eaten the food.
Local champions
When you stay in a special place, you’ll know exactly where your breakfast egg came from, and which farmer reared your bacon. You’ll enjoy home-made imaginative meals produced with flair and care.
A stay with us helps to keep independent artisan producers afloat, as our owners support these local champions. Helping to sustain rural economies is one of the most rewarding aspects of our work.
