Special Places fit for a King (and Queen)
A quick cast around the office for stories linking us with the royals revealed some surprising - and, yes, sometimes tenuous - connections...
The Westleton Crown in Suffolk recently looked after Wills and Kate on their first anniversary. You can stay in the Swan Room from £90 a night.
Book a break at Ty Coed, a converted barn near Anglesey's beaches, and you may bump into Kate in the local Waitrose.
The Duke of Richmond is said to have built Itchenor Park House near Chichester for his French mistress in 1783. It must have been some love affair. And you can stay from £95 per night.
At these three pubs, that are part of a handpicked selection in our Pubs & Inns guide, you'll soak up more royal history... The Queen popped in to The Bridge Inn in Topsham for her first pub visit since 2000; Prince Charles is a staunch support of the Old Crown in Hesket Newmarket and helped save the co-operative-owned inn from closure; the Yew Tree in Cheshire, in a homage to the Queen, has a wall papered in tartan and stacks of memorabilia dedicated to her life.
Undermount, in Ventnor, on the Isle of Wight - a beautiful self-catering house that is part of a mansion - has a stone entrance tunnel that was built especially for a visit from Queen Victoria.
