Special Places to Stay - More than a bed for the night

This is the perfect peaceful retreat from bustling Padstow and its happy miscellany of shops, pubs and busy harbourside. In days gone by, girls paid one penny to go to school here, and all of the original features (sloping walls, exposed beams) have been kept and add to the charm. This was a much-loved family holiday home, and it still keeps its cosy, lived-in feel. The country-cottage kitchen has a solid wooden table, tiled floors and everything you'd need to feed famished explorers. The chunky pine continues into the living room, along with a super wood-burner and a big window that beautifully frames the view to the peaceful, secluded garden. You need not despair of wet and wild days – there's a TV, DVDs and stacks of books to delve in to. Bedrooms come in different shapes and sizes. One has an iron bedstead and an old fireplace, another gets the view, all have good mattresses and share a brand new bathroom across the landing. Walkers, surfers and paddlers will be in heaven. The famous Obby Oss procession passes the front door, and foodies couldn't be closer to the Stein trail. A happy spot for couples and families.
