Sparrows, Beara Farmhouse

A very special place, with very special owners. And everything here has been crafted by Richard; he’s converted this farm building opposite the main house with love and quirky touches. Upstairs is an open-plan living area flooded with light... the view follows the hill up to the sky, as the kune kune pigs snuffle in the fields below. A lovely curvy beam straddles the sitting space, part of a new green-oak roof that had to be meticulously lifted into place. Kitchen cupboards and doors are hand-made from recycled wood and coloured glass; light fittings were crafted by a blacksmith on Richard's forge. Downstairs are two snug bedrooms, shower room and bathroom, and a beautiful hallway. Fresh flowers on the wood-burner's hearth come from Ann's garden, the curtains from her sewing room, the welcome scones and cream from her kitchen. A claw-foot bath, a flat-screen TV and a dishwasher have crept in as shiny-new but welcome extras. There’s a patio with table, chairs and loungers if you want to stay put and lap up the peace – but the coastline, pretty villages, pub walks and great gardens are a hop away.
