Special Places to Stay - More than a bed for the night

Pennard is incredibly grand in the don’t-forget-to-pack-a-jumper way; it’s been in Susie’s family since the 17th century. You have the run of the library, drawing room, magnificent billiard room, 60-acre orchard, meadows, woods, and grass tennis court. Bedrooms have a mix of ‘princess and the pea’ style beds with mattresses to match, but all are very large with wide views, gorgeous linen and antique furniture. Great for groups; it’s a big house but still feels comfortably lived in. Outside, all seems serene, graceful, easy – yet a huge amount of time and hard work has gone into developing and restoring the grounds. Sweeping lawns, mature trees, 14th-century church below, suntrap terrace, pools and curious topiary... Pennard House is one of those dreamy landscape gardens straight out of P G Wodehouse. There are the open, sunny lawns around the house and, across a little lane, a second garden with clipped hedges, a formal rose garden and inviting spring-fed pool which feeds a series of ponds below. Don’t miss the witty topiary cottage, rabbit and other creatures which the gardener has created over the years.
