Four centuries old, this was Chewton Mendip’s post office; now it’s a delightful home with a sunny feel. After a day’s exploring, return to fresh, lovely bedrooms and bathrooms; the suite, limewashed, pretty and private, has oak floors and a fridge. Huge flagstones cover the oldest part downstairs, there’s a big stone fireplace in the Old Bakery Cottage and the odd low beam; pale walls display charming sketches from an artist friend, much of the furniture is French country, and a Gallic-rustic mood prevails.
