"Field House is a wonderful place to stay, especially with two children and a dog. Geoff kindly let the children help feed the animals which they loved. The breakfast was a feast that kept us going all the way back to London. Enjoyed speaking to Geoff and Pat about the interesting history of their house, which is delightful and has a beautiful garden around it. We had great adjoining rooms with beautiful views. Can't recommend highly enough and looking forward to returning. Thank you to our kind hosts!"

"We spent two nights in Field House. Initially I was disappointed that the two en-suite rooms had not been available. However, we were rewarded by a spacious bedroom with our bathroom only a step across the landing. The rooms shared a pastoral view over the fields of the Calder valley with Jacobs sheep grazing happily and, nearer to hand, a quintessential English garden. Pat and Geoff were generous hosts full of local information and justly proud of their early eighteenth century farmhouse. Bronte, the cocker spaniel, made sure we felt at home and Pat took us out to visit the new born lambs sheltering in a barn with their mother. The breakfasts were a feast with fabulous home made raspberry jam and proper loaves for us to cut and toast for ourselves. The weather was dreadful over the whole of our first day - drenching sideways rain and water pouring down the side of the lane. So we were not able to go walking. Fortunately, the weather had improved by the time we were leaving and Pat told us about the Piece Hall and Food Festival in Halifax where we spent a fascinating morning. Knowing that I was a keen gardener she also suggested a local nursery. I came home with several excellent new plants. The breakfast guests on our second morning were all a delight. Somehow, as the weather had been seriously poor, something of a World War Two spirit arose which was contributed to by one of the other visitors who had come north to perform nostalgic songs at a nineteen forties forces weekend. What fun we had."

"Delightful stay with my family. This little gem of a guesthouse nestles in a beautiful valley with it's own definitive english country garden. Pat and Geoff are the perfect hosts who love to tell you about their beautiful house. Wild flowers from their own meadows adorn the rooms. Breakfast including delights of eggs from their own chickens, plum jam from last seasons bumper harvest and stewed rhubarb from the garden-as well as sausage and black pudding from up the road. Geoff will show you the Knights of St John cross on the building-one of only 3 in the area- which marked houses where crusading knights could get a free nights rest. He may also show you the olde worldy twin lavvy in the garden. Although still functional, you may be lucky enough to have a gorgeous on-suite with double-ended roll top bath. A short walk across Geoffs fields leads to yorkshire's pub of the year. This place is a dream come true for lovers of English country life, and worth a detour from any trip up north. Turn up in in your knights Templar outfit on your white charger and you may even get a discount !"

"Had a super time. Lovely setting, great hospitality from Pat and Geoff, and our dog got on really well with Cocker Spaniel Bronte! Bedroom was very spacious and clean. An ideal base from which to explore Halifax, Howarth, etc. We felt very much part of the family."
