The Experience
You’ll be hard pushed to find a finer looking pub in a more gorgeous village. The National Trust’s Malham is a favourite with potholers (this part of Yorkshire is rich with caverns) but there are many surface pleasures to be had too. Sitting on the edge of the village green, the 17th-century coaching inn was once home to the first Lord of Ribblesdale and very grand it looks too. Don’t stand on ceremony: inside are flagged floors, wood-burning stoves and well-kept local ales. Darren also puts an interesting menu together using mostly local produce. You could start with game galantine, and move onto blackened prawn and salmon stroganoff; if you have room, finish with rum soaked apple and sultana crumble. Staying the night? Choose a contemporary new room in the cottage, or head upstairs to one of the comfy bedrooms with calm colours, lovely linen and pristine bathrooms; many have views over the village green to the hills beyond. The barn has beautiful bedrooms, a shared lounge with a wood burner, and a warm welcome for families and dogs.

We ate here last night and it was fantastic. Lovely, friendly staff, great atmosphere and village, wonderful food. I had the meat platter, and the pork pie and pate were honestly the best I've ever tasted. My husband had the steak, and it was perfect. We'll definitely be back

We stayed at the Lister Arms last weekend with our 2 children aged 8 and 6. Our room was beautiful. We were so surprised by the size of it- we were expecting their bunk bed to be in our room, but it was upstairs, along with a full bathroom and separate toilet. It was beautifully appointed, even had a hot water bottle and ear plugs. The bed was very comfortable. We also had access to a communal lounge with a fireplace, comfy chairs and board games. The Inn itself is only a short walk down the road and across a little bridge. The food was delicious and the people so friendly and helpful.

My husband and I have just had 2 nights at the Lister Arms. Amazing Inn/Hotel - Character room so large and comfortable with a large walk-in shower. Staff amazing very friendly and food very reasonably priced and enjoyable. They are great animal lovers and your dog would be made more than welcome. We unfortunately picked the wrong weather but we will certainly go back in the spring.

Wonderful stay from the prime location in beautiful Malham to the supremely comfortable bed, excellent shower and amazingly helpful staff. Breakfast was one of the highlights - especially the extra sausage for our dog! Will definitely be returning.

Introducing
Daniel Thwaites
Daniel Thwaites, founded in Mellor Brook near Blackburn in 1807, is still run as a family business. They branched out into hotels and country Inns in the late 1990s and Daniel Thwaites Inns has grown considerably during the 2000s. All of their lovely places to stay are innovative, generous-spirited and brimming with craftsmanship and warmth.
The Lister Arms has all the charm that one expects from an old inn in a Yorkshire Dales village. An atmospheric pub and suitably creaky floors in the spacious rooms. This is serious walker country and the Arms welcomes muddy boots. What made it extra special were the friendly, professional and attentive staff that easily managed a hungry and thirsty crowd in both the pub and the restaurant.
