At the end of the pretty country lane is a lovely longère filled with tranquillity and views. Here live Mark and Monica, the most generous people, with one friendly Jack Russell and chickens running free. Step inside: to space, warmth and bonhomie. Seductive bedrooms, one in the house, two in the barn, have down duvets and pale old beams, bathrooms are white, fresh and luxurious and there are interesting pictures throughout. Doze on the terrace, play the piano, read… or set off with a champagne picnic and a canoe! Return to candles and a Swedish dinner – or a barbecue on the camp fire. Heaven for city escapees.

"A super warm welcome greeted us both from the wonderful Monica and the cosy interior of the house. Supper was marvellous and the only complaint was that we were only there for one night. What really struck us was the really homey feel to the house, we immediately felt at ease. There is no doubt that we will return and definitely for longer next time."

"A gem of a find and a luxury hideaway! Mon and Mark are the perfect hosts and go the extra mile to ensure you feel at home. This special B&B is ideal for exploring the beautiful countryside or chilling out on a lounger in the amazing garden before enjoying Mon's fabulous cooking! Mon and Mark have an 'open house' philosophy. In fact our 9 year old daughter was so relaxed she was often found helping Mon in the kitchen or snuggled up to 'Spot' the dog in their lounge. The rooms are spotless and individually designed to the highest standard. Looking forward to our 3rd visit. Warren and Vicki"

"You know that feeling - you get back from holiday and you just want to go back. That's what we felt like after staying a week at La Maison Verte. Mark and Monica are the perfect hosts who soon become friends. The rooms are superb, the garden is a relaxation delight, the house is gorgeous and should you choose to sample Monica's cooking (and I recommend that you do), it is up there with the best. Would we go back? Yes, tomorrow if we could. Will we go back? Try and stop us!"

"Staying at La Maison Verte is a wonderful experience - stunning French countryside and an extremely warm welcome from Monica, Mark and Spot the dog - on arrival we knew we'd found somewhere really special. We had so many lovely experiences whilst at LMV and were totally spoiled - nothing was too much trouble. Our hosts even staged a surprise camp fire dinner for my partner's birthday. We sat by the fire, chatting, eating amazing food and listening to the frogs and crickets, it was truly unforgettable. And when you go to bed and turn out the lights, it is so dark and quiet - we slept very well!"

"A home from home, but more relaxing. Beautiful location even unseasonal weather couldn't diminish and such a warm welcome from Monica, Mark and Spot. The Greens had thought of everything, right down to the heated blanket! There are walks a plenty from the house, then markets, castles and chateaux within easy drives and at the end of the day, Monica's fabulous food. We hope the French weather will be back to normal next time so we can make the most of their beautiful garden and sit out with a glass, under the Oak tree. "

"After reading the reviews for La Maison Verte, you might be forgiven for thinking that it all sounds too good to be true. We assure you it IS true! The accommodation is spacious and comfortable, the welcome from Mark, Monica and, of course, Spot is second to none and Monica's cooking is superb. This is a wonderful location to relax and unwind and enjoy rural France at it's very best. Four nights was not enough and we look forward to returning before too long. "

"Zoals het was in een sprookje! De ontvangst en gastvrijheid! Hartverwarmend! Niet te vergeten de heerlijke gerechten van Monica! Het diner was geweldig."

"A second stay was just as fantastic - great food, exceptional hospitality, comfy rooms with luxurious linen and deep soft towels. Yes the weather was less than wonderful but holing up here with a blazing fire, hospitality second to none and such relaxed hosts means one can really enjoy a stay no matter how grey November can be. "This was our 2nd overnight stop at LMV, breaking our journey to and from the Pyrennees. Monica and Mark (aided and abetted by Spotty their delightful dog) have worked tirelessly on the renovation of their old stone farmhouse/barn and created the most superb and I must say luxurious B&B. We've stayed in many Alistair Sawday special places over the last 20+ years but their attention to detail is second to none! They take pleasure in spoiling their guests - Nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast - copious, fresh and delicious and Monica's dinners are 5*. Fantastic hosts, will def. return soon."

"We spent a lovely 2 nights here on our way south and found everything lived up to the comments made by previous guests. A truly lovely peaceful place with really charming hosts, a beautifully restored house with lovely furnishings and great food. What more could anyone want? We can't wait to return."

"Monica and Mark are fantastic hosts - their friendly and unobtrusive hospitality is unrivaled in our experience. The setting is perfect - an ideal base from which to explore the region. Monica's cooking is fabulous and we felt truly pampered. Spot the dog was a particular highlight for our two year old daughter! We very much hope to return."

"Absolutely fantastic! Monica and Mark make you welcome from the moment you drive up to their gorgeous home. It's a wonderful, peaceful setting to relax and unwind around their beautiful property and garden (and when it's really hot, the outdoor shower is a huge hit with adults and children alike!.) Our rooms were spotless, comfortable and very pretty (thanks to Mark's own carpentry and Monica's interior design.) We never strayed from the B and B at night because Monica's cooking was so exceptional and the company so great. And the icing on the cake? Spot the dog!"

"We couldn't have asked for more from our stay with Monica & Mark. It was the most relaxing and stress free holiday that we have had and that was all thanks to their friendliness and helpfulness. The house is very comfortable and it's easy to make yourself feel at home. There are plenty of great walks/rides near by or you can just sunbathe in the garden. I highly recommend that if you stay you make the most of Monica's cooking. The meals we had were fantastic. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat in the French countryside or a comfortable stop-over on route to somewhere else this is ideal."

"Have stayed in lots of establishments of this type over the years, but few if any could rival this for comfort, hospitality, attention to detail, glorious surroundings and furnishings, and food which many restaurants would be proud to serve. Loved every minute, from the outdoor breakfasts and dinners beautifully presented and laid out, to the cosy and tastefully restored house and gardens. Great hosts, great place...something Monica and Mark have worked hard to make special, and which they should be proud of."

"FABULOUS! The very best place we've EVER stayed! The house is the epitome of luxury, with every consideration catered for. The rooms are magnificent, extremely well decorated with interesting items & luxurious bedding & the most beautiful furniture. The food is first rate & could be served in a 5 star hotel. As hosts, Mark & Monica couldn't be more accommodating. We never wanted for anything, & they were interesting, eloquent & considerate. As for the actual building & its surrounding gardens, well, DIVINE is the only word we can find. We will 100% be returning soon!! "

"We had a fantastic stay with Monica & Mark. We originally booked for three nights, but ended up staying almost a week! The stay was faultless - beautiful house and garden, friendly hosts & fantastic food. The surrounding area and walks were beautiful and we will hopefully return sometime soon."

"Back again. This is my second visit, again on my way back from the Pyrennes. Mark had added yet more improvements if it is possible to improve on perfection and likewise Monica's evening meal, a great BBQ, was delicious. Walked through the local woods to the river, a true rural idyll. Left at 11.30 and caught the 19.00 ferry from Calais, a leisurely drive despite Paris traffic. Will certainly be visiting again before the year is out."

"We are a family of 2 adults, a teenager son & an 11 yr old daughter. We stayed at Mark & Monica’s place from 10th to 15th June. We took 2 ensuite rooms that came with our own separate living area. It was our first experience living in someone’s house. Well…what can we say?! It was absolutely fantastic – a beautiful place (check out the pictures on LMV’s website – they look exactly as how we saw them – no Adobe Photoshop at work!), great food and even greater hosts! Words will not do justice to what we have experienced at Mark & Monica’s place. We took a 2-hour TGV ride from Paris to Poitiers. Then drove for about an hour from Poitiers to LMV (passed through some very scenic views of the French country side) with the help of Mark’s directions emailed to us earlier – directions were to the tee! The GPS will also direct you to LMV’s doorstep. LMV was re-fitted & re-decorated personally by both Mark & Monica! Yes, they literally re-built the whole place! Ask for a “before and after” photo tour by Mark, over a cup of English tea or coffee and by the fire place – absolutely beautiful & nostalgic! The place was done up only about a year ago and hence everything is still new & fresh although the rustic & country charm are still being retained. We will not dwell into the specifics of the bedrooms and bathrooms furnishings – we had stayed in 5-6 stars luxury class hotels/resorts all over the world, and would say that LMV is comparable if not even better than some of them! Only item lacking in the room is a hair dryer though ;p. Things to do – exactly as stated in LMV’s website. In addition, many nearby quaint villages to explore. Or, just do absolutely nothing and let Mark & Monica spoil and pamper you with their superb hospitality. On hindsight, we should have done more of that – just enjoy the place, food and the company of Mark, Monica & Spot! Breakfasts (included in room rate) were great & sumptuous. Dinners (separate charge – either 2 or 3 course) were delicious with wine, beer & non-alcoholic beverages served. Sadly, we didn’t get a chance to do lunch (separate charge) & only had a single occasion of tea time (which was also wonderful - included in room rate) as we were mostly out visiting. Our daughter is not one who likes food but she completely fell in love with Monica’s cooking. Our son enjoyed the evenings watching movies together with Mark (Mark has a good & sizeable collection of DVDs) & Spot (this cute little fella was always snuggling up to Mark underneath the sofa blankets) drinking & savoring chocolates! The adults enjoyed sipping wine, drinking tea/coffee and eating Monica’s freshly baked cakes & especially enjoyed the barbeque dinner in LMV’s vast & spacious backyard. Will we visit again? Of course! We are already planning for next winter!"

"What a find - absolutely fabulous ! The tranquility of the setting, the warmth of the welcome, a beautifully furnished house plus a superb meal on the terrace. Rarely do we return to anywhere, preferring to seek pastures new but we booked another visit before we left - need we say more .....!"

"This was the perfect place to stay after a long drive. Mark and Monica were warm and welcoming. Everything is to a very high standard and our room was lovely and the evening meal and breakfast were delicious. There were many extras which made this a really special place to stay such as tea and cakes on the terrace when we arrived, invitation to relax and watch a film in the sitting room, lovely toiletries in the bathroom - I could go on. I would highly recommend a stay at La Maison Verte."

"If you are on your way to Spain this is a perfect place to break your journey. I did on the way south (via San Sabastian)and on the way back (via Andorra) and there'll be no more red eye, non-stop drives for me in future. Easy to reach between two motorways (E5/A10 and E9/A20), great countyside, really friendly, very comfortable (all mod cons) and be sure to book for dinner; Monica's cooking will beat any restaurant. I just stayed for a couple of nights but it would be perfect for longer stays especially if you enjoy walking, cycling and exploring. Seriously thinking about it for 2012. Highly recommended."
