What makes La Jabotte special? Is it the courtyard scented with oranges or the bedrooms the colours of jewels? Or is it Claude and Yves, Belgians who came to the Cap one summer and fell for a small faded hotel. Today it is an explosion of colour, beautifully clean and inviting. Yves is the artistic one, Claude oversees all, both are generous and kind. Down a small side street, 60 metres from the beach, are polished stone floors and cherry-red walls, pots of roses and bright parakeets, Tommy the wagging white Westie, lavender and champagne. Pass the deep aubergine sofa, enter the gliding wall of glass and find the enchanting pebbled courtyard off which lie the bedrooms. Each has its table and chairs outside the door and pots of plants lovingly labelled; it feels more home than hotel and you get to know your neighbours. Bedrooms – Lavender, Citron – are small but charming, shower rooms have delicious lotions and fulsome towels, though no shower screens. After fresh jams, oranges and croissants, saunter into Old Antibes – or drift down to the free sandy beach and your own parasol.
