The cottage perches on the water's edge; any closer to the sea and you'd get your toes wet. A terrace runs at the back, perfect for an early morning coffee when you can watch the birdlife and the occasional curious seal bob past. Most rooms make the most of the view, and French windows lead out to the terrace from the wonderfully tall, light living room, its fire stocked with turf to keep you cosy on stormier days. Beds with embroidered pillowcases face the sea; others come with a handsome wood four-poster; as you might expect, there's a nautical theme in the art on the walls. Jackie is a painter and runs classes, while husband Joe can tell you all the local history, point out the best restaurants or take you on a guided tour of Skerries: nothing is too much trouble. Like a home away from home, there's a guest kitchen to warm a baby's bottle or chill something fine for an evening sundowner. This is worth a visit for breakfast alone: Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, smoked mackerel and scrambled eggs... later you can head out to The Harbour or Red Island, for a bracing walk and more of that lovely sea air.

"A warm welcome, lovely decor, comfortable rooms, excellent breakfasts, super location and lovely hosts. 5 days/4nights were really not enough but felt as if we had been there longer. Lobster dinner a must and wished we had been there for the afternoon teas - a summer special."

"This is a special place and The Harbour Master room is superb. Great decor with fabulous views of the sea and skerries harbour. There is an American beach house feel to this room. We slept in the most comfortable bed, ate incredible lobster and crab for lunch and had afternoon tea to die for the next day. Breakfasts were a feast with the best coffee ever. Joe and Jackie have got it so right and with Jess doing her afternoon tea speciality there is no need to leave this marvellous home from home with 5 star trimmings. We will have to return very soon."

"This is a very special place. Thank you for the recommendation! What you don't see in the photo is the back where seawater laps against the whitewashed terrace over jagged rocks and a bit of mist hangs over the boats on the other side of the harbor. It is gorgeous. We took a commuter train 40 mins from Dublin, wandered down the hill on foot, and couldn't believe our luck. The owners are easy-going and immediately made us feel that this was our place to enjoy, our terrace, our hangout. And breakfast is lovely, eggs, fruit, and the best smoked salmon I've ever had, sprinkled with herbs grown outside the door."
