Special Places to Stay - More than a bed for the night

This is almost certainly the most beautiful view in Ireland – sea and sky and that's about it. You drop down a steep hill, turn left at the tiny pier, then rumble up the track and arrive in paradise. Expect nothing but peace and wild beauty and some very friendly chickens. There are paths to whisk you up to the cliffs or down to the beach, the latter perfect for picnics and cricket and swimming; boats to the Skelligs leave from the pier. Back at the coach house you find three gorgeous apartments, two up, one down. The upstairs apartments flood with light and come with decked terraces (one looks out to sea). The downstairs one is larger – and if you're here for a week you'll be grateful for the extra space. All are generously priced, all come in delicious style: warm colours, smart fabrics, lovely bathrooms, books galore. Super kitchens (neatly fitted on the landing of the upstairs apartments) have all you'll need to whisk up a three-course meal. There are gardens, too, semi-tropical no less, that are full of rare Kerry lilies. Don't miss Derrynane, an invigorating walk along the cliffs. Out of this world.
