The comforts of a boutique hotel in a magnificent palazzo near Rome's Campo dei Fiori market; friendly family owners give personal service

Read guest comments

Five-star service with family charm and the elegance of a vintage palazzo – the best of all worlds in central Rome. This boutique hotel, run by gentle Paolo and his niece Carlotta, is steps from Largo Argentina's ruined temples and the spot where Julius Caesar met his fate, an easy walk from the Campo dei Fiori fruit and veg market, the glorious Pantheon and Rome's backstreet art galleries. Ring the bell at the imposing doorway and ascend the pale marble stairs to the warm red reception. Gilt-framed mirrors and chandeliers give a taste of what's to come in palatial bedrooms: wallpapers of pale green willow or rose-pink, king-size beds and parquet floors, antique tables, long draped curtains and gleaming windows. Bathrooms are shiny-new and modern. All is refined and restful, a grand hideaway for a special stay. Fresh pastries, fruit and Italian coffee arrive on a breakfast trolley; no bar/lounge, but you can take a drink out to the little terrace overlooking Rome's rooftops. Paolo and Carlotta are like your personal concierge (but much more friendly!), arranging transport, guides, opera tickets and more.

"Truly wonderful! Right in the centre of Rome within walking distance of everything you might wish to see during a weekend break. A delightful welcome. by a lovely team headed by Carlotta. Great decor and a massive bed in a large, comfortable room (and v powerful shower). Was a treat to stay, a chore to leave. V highly recommended."

"My husband and I spent 5 days staying in Rome at Relais Teatro Argentina and were made to feel incredibly welcome by Paolo and Carlotta. Not only was our room magnificent but both our hosts immediately tuned into what we might like to see and do, given that we've visited Rome several times before. We followed their recommendations to visit some less well known places and had great conversations about Italian food and places to eat. It was much more than just a place to stay. We are already thinking about our return to Rome and will definitely be returning to stay at this perfect hotel. Thank you for a wonderful time!"

"My husband and I spent 3 nights at Relais Teatro Argentina in January. We stayed in the Library room, which was comfortable and stylish. It had a brand new bathroom (with a bath!). You do get some street noise, even with the shutters closed but as the street outside isn't busy this isn't much of a problem. Breakfast is served in the bedroom which was a lovely experience - very private. All the staff were helpful and polite. The Relais is well positioned, within walking distance to many sights. We would highly recommend the Relais and would happily stay there again."

"We stayed here right before Christmas. The rooms were huge, the breakfast beautiful, and the location was perfect--right in the center of Rome. Paolo and Carlotta were very friendly and helpful. Their restaurant suggestions were very good (there are also many others within a few minutes walk of the place), and they also suggested a couple of sights to see that aren't generally on the map, but are well worth going to. Not only was it a great place (and quite romantic) for my husband and I, but my brother-in-law, his wife, and their three girls were with us and it worked well for them too. The family suite was perfect for them. We were only able to stay for three nights, but I would have happily stayed much longer!"
