Special Places to Stay - More than a bed for the night

Wisteria was growing through the old convent when Ann and her husband fell in love with it. The roof had fallen in too but, undeterred, they went ahead and turned it into the lovely place it is today. They thoroughly enjoy welcoming guests to these two apartments, traditional, comfortable, homely and quiet, with their big airy rooms, well-equipped kitchens and independent outside stairs. Il Ghiro is on the first floor of a former hay barn; La Vigna is above the garages, its second bedroom and ensuite opening off the first, and its little balcony catching the afternoon sun. Best of all is the garden with its big lawns and fenced pool and tennis court discreetly tucked away; it's a treat to stroll amongst the shrubs and the trees, lie back on a lounger with a view to the river, take tea on the terrace. Birdsong and water are the only sounds and yet you are no distance at all from the excitements of Menaggio and Lake Como. The position is wonderful, on the isthmus between two grand lakes, on the edge of a cobbled village, surrounded by mountains, meadows and winding country lanes.
