Nothing is too much trouble for Lesley, whose easy-going vivacity makes this place a delight, while Dean gardens immaculately. Cots, toys, DVDs, a bottle of wine at the end of a journey, a welcoming smile – she and Dean provide it all. The apartments are immaculate, the gardens prettily landscaped, the pool has long views. A 15-minute walk down the hill from historic Mogliano (three restaurants, shops, banks and bars) is this magnificent 19th-century country house, its four new apartments spanning three floors. The unrestored part sits quietly, rustically alongside. Inside, all is new, inviting and spotlessly clean. Showers have cream tiles and white towels, kitchens are quietly luxurious, sofas gleam in brown leather, cushions add splashes of red, wooden furniture is stylish and new, indoor shutters cut out early morning light, and views are of rolling hills. You are in the heart of the lovely, unsung Le Marche, an easy drive from historic Macerata and not much further from the Adriatic coast. Couples love it, and families, too. A year-round treat.

  • Macerata (20 mins away) Opera festival during July and August – 2nd only to Verona.
  • Lots of blue flag beaches within an easy drive.
  • Sibillini National Park only 40 mins – fanstatic for sightseeing, walking, cycling.
  • Mogliano 1744 Festival (1st weekend in July) – Street entertainers, period dress, eating al fresco, fireworks.
  • Walking and horse riding at a local ancient Abbey and grounds – 10 mins by car.
  • Cookery courses and wine tastings available.

"This is a beautiful spot to base yourself to explore what Le Marche has to offer. However, it is also somewhere where you can spend hours just enjoying the peace and quiet and simple luxury of the place....You have everything you need (and more)in the apartments (including air conditioning, basic supplies on arrival and access to books and DVDs) and you also get added extras including advice from both Lesley and Dean on places to go and things to see. Perhaps more importantly access to Dean's "maxi fridge" full of local wine and beers for you to try. They are very very welcoming (I would include Marley the dog in this!)and will give you as much help or as little help as you want. The local town of Mogliano is very close by with excellent restaurants, supermarkets and a local market. Check out Zanzibar for the ice cream and the mobile vans for porchetta panini. Le Marche is full of beautiful hilltop towns and beaches and amazing local produce, Caserma Carina gives you the home from home (with probably a bit more luxury!)to explore this lovely region of Italy."

"Lesley and Dean have created a really comfortable and beautiful place to stay, to explore this off-the-beaten track part of Italy - yet you are only 30 mins from the beach, and 30 mins from the hills! All those little things that make the stay easy - from kitchen bits and bobs (so you don't have to buy them) to the help and support they give you in finding the best places in the local area, make it easy to experience Le Marche. And, if you just spent your week round the pool, the views of the Monte Sibilini are sensational. All in all, they work hard to give you everything you need to find a true break and experience La Dolce Vita!"

"We are a family of four with two children 5 and 7 and spend our Easter holidays at Caserma Carina. We found a wonderful place to relax with stunning views and wonderful hosts. The apartment – Lavanda - was very spacious, tastefully furnished and had all installations we needed, e.g. DVD player plus a big DVD collection, WiFi, iPod Docking Station, book collection. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything you can expect. Caserma Carina has a beautiful garden, an immaculate lawn and a big pool. We didn’t try it because 19°C water temperature at the end of April was a bit too challenging. However, the kids had a great time playing in the garden and playing with Marley the cute, little dog. Dean and Lesley our host were always there to answer our questions and to provide us with all kinds of great suggestions for places and activities. Unfortunately we did not have the time to try everything - especially the beaches to the South - but we will certainly come back."
