Come here for life's slow rhythm – and for this warm, honest and lovely family. The grandparents arrived in 1936, when the little church put the podere into their hands; they and young Michelangelo have worked the land ever since. Anyone wishing to experience 'real' Italian peasant life (vita del contadino) should come here; so little has changed at La Casellina, inside or out. Simple spotless bedrooms, in the old hayloft and stables, have very comfortable beds and views of the San Pietro al Terreno's church. All the food, oil and produce is deliciously Slow, while the landscape, between Chianti and Valdarno, is exquisite; you have the chestnut woods of the Chianti mountains to one side, oaks, cypresses and olives to the other. Learn to prune vines and pick olives on the farm; gather chestnuts and wild mushrooms in the woods. Go riding or biking, then return to Grandma's recipes – the grape flan is scrumptious and there's passion fruit for breakfast. Michelangelo is a dear, talks to the animals as though they were family and speaks brilliant English.

"A very welcoming and friendly place! Silvia and Michelangelo are the perfect hosts. Beautiful countryside, good food and wine. Memories of our walks through the hills, surrounded by wildflowers, still linger."

"My family and I stayed with Michelangelo and Silvia in April for several days, basing there for our brief exploration of Tuscany. We could not have wished for a better experience. Not only were they absolutely perfect and friendly hosts, but they served the most lovely food, grown/raised right there on the farm. They speak excellent English and have a very worldly view. They have chosen this life, and it certainly shows in the readily apparent love of how they live. The rooms are comfy, and the large kitchen with open hearth is simply not to be missed. "

"This was our first day in Italy and we were made to feel very welcome by Silvia and the children. We were very interested to see their vines and how they prune, as we are trying to grow some in our Dorset garden. We are full of admiration as to what they are trying to do in natural cultivation. Their Chianti (Sangiovese) wine is unadulterated and delicious."
