Fresh from the coast with a crate of Bolgheri in the boot, romantic couples will be delighted to find this peaceful old hunting lodge in the middle of woods. it's an amazing place, part of the 280-hectare Tenuta Giardini Estate, and almost hidden by greenery... it stands at the end of a white road flanked by tight coils of olive trees and the grazing pastures of the famous white Chianina cows. These five apartments really do feel cut off from the rest of the world, and nicely private too, divided by bushes and shrubs along the pathways. 'Solengo', off to one side, is the grandest with its large living room and fireplace, but all have good-sized kitchens, built-in wardrobes, store rooms and shower bathrooms. Elegant and tastefully lit interiors have been lovingly restored with style, their high-ceiling'd, wooden-floored double bedrooms decked in smart fabrics and soft natural colours. Each has its own garden space – but what you'll probably want to do is head for the sea. You can also walk to the close by Relais Sant Elena for use of their pool, or take a stroll in the woods – just mind the wild boar!
