In a commanding position with far-reaching views – spot Siena on the horizon – is a former monastery encircled by olive groves, roses and a wrought-iron fence. Inside, find 800 square metres of tiles, beams and cotto ceilings renovated by craftsmen with no expense spared. The sitting room stretches the length of the house, its arched windows surveying the inner courtyard, its French windows overlooking the garden. Live life like a king – or a film star: they have dropped by! – in amongst grand armchairs and sofas, oils in gilt frames and swish stripey fabrics. The bedrooms sport ornate polished bedheads, harmonious colours, eclectic pictures; the bathrooms are marble, some with gold taps, one with a jacuzzi; the kitchen is awash with every device known to man. Housekeeper Rosa lives on the ground floor, shops and cooks for you if that's what you wish, and keeps the linen fresh.
