Far from the madding crowds, you are ensconced in a solid 1970s farmhouse overlooking Lake Garda – what a setting! Adorable Elena, ex-lawyer from Verona, loves her guests, loves the country life and bakes a different cake for breakfast each day. The open-plan downstairs is the heart of the house, all chunky beams, wall paintings and agrarian artefacts on white walls, while outside is a small summer kitchen in the garden with a barbecue – a great extra addition for guests. Now that Elena's parents have moved to Verona you have three bedrooms to choose from, two with magnificent views, all with very comfortable beds and charmingly decorated in palest pinks and creams by Elena. Terraces have been furnished with loungers on every level: settle back and absorb the tranquillity and the views with a glass of Bardolino rosé. Elena is full of recommendations of where to go and what to do, and which restaurants to try – slip off to the lake, dine on fabulous fish, sample the opera in Verona, come and go as you please. Brilliant value – you'll love this place.
