Rupert rustles up geranium-infused panna cotta and olive-oil cake that taste like sunshine; bedrooms are light, breezy and utterly elegant

Staying here is like staying with friends... who just happen to run one of Europe's most exquisite B&Bs. This traditional mansion, flecked with dazzling modernity, sitting beneath the walls of a 13th-century fort, is a place to feel stylishly at home. Andrew used to be picture editor for Marie-Claire, hence the chandelier that drips glass grapes above bohemian armchairs, or the hall table seemingly plucked from a Restoration play. Meanwhile, in a bucolic kitchen, Rupert rustles up geranium-infused panna cotta and olive-oil cake that taste like sunshine on the tongue, and are best enjoyed in the fabulous garden amid the luxuriant fronds and honeysuckle archways. The upstairs bedrooms are sea-light and breezy, one boasting a four-poster tapering to bud-like points, the other spreading around a pampering bed, whose elegant bedspread slips silkily over warm limbs. The cool downstairs double is served by its own outside entrance and all have warmly tiled bathrooms with thoughtful glass trolleys for busy wash bags. Throw open shutters and let in sun and birdsong, idle chatter and the clatter of lunchtime dominoes.

"The old saying - never go back to spoil a memory - is comprehensively kicked into touch on a return visit to Casa Rosada. What's not to like about hosts with an attention to detail in making their guests visits truely memorable, superb breakfasts & fabulous evening meals ? Congratulations Andrew & Rupert ! "

"We have just spent a week with Andrew and Rupert and like all the other visitors We loved our stay with them. We did not hire a car and so relied on trains and taxis. They were so helpful and gave us so much information especially re restaurants that we would never have found without their knowledge of the area. We did of course sample Rupert's superb cooking and also had a meal with our hosts which was great fun. Their attention to detail when it came to service was faultless. Breakfasts in their absolutely gorgeous garden was such a treat for us as we have no garden in London. Thank you both for a lovely week."

"Just returned (sadly) from our second visit to Casa Rosada having taken some friends with us to experience the faultless warm hospitality, tremendous food and delightful house - not to be missed! Always so much more to do that will be remembered for next time. Thanks so much Andrew and Rupert."

"Our third visit, unfortunately for only one evening, but at least we were to sample dinner (always a real highlight here). We can't imagine why anyone would want to stay elsewhere when visiting this part of the world."

"With spacious rooms and bathrooms that are spotlessly clean, Casa Rosada nestles at the foot of the medieval castle of Castro Marim. Andrew and Rupert are charming hosts and bring to life the past history of the house and of the village itself. The garden is a delight of hidden quiet corners shaded by palm and citrus trees. We enjoyed exploring both sides of the border and nearby Algarve beaches. It was a thoroughly enjoyable stay."

"We had the perfect stay at the Casa Rosada and I would highly recommend it to anybody wanting a relaxing break with great food, an idyllic setting and excellent service. Andrew and Rupert are great hosts and helped us with so many things such as booking taxis, lending us books and maps and recommending restaurants (believe what they say because they know good food!). We stayed in room 3 (downstairs) which was ideal for us; it was clean, cool and tastefully decorated, plus the private bathroom is lovely and spacious with a luxurious power shower. The breakfast was quite simply a highlight of every day, it was delicious! Sitting in the beautiful garden in the morning sunshine, eating fresh fruit, yoghurt and home made cakes and marmalades ensured that every day got off to the perfect start. We had one evening meal at Casa Rosada which matched the standards of breakfast and is extremely good value for money. Overall, I couldn't possibly fault Casa Rosada and would like to thank Andrew and Rupert for being such lovely hosts. I definitely hope to return."
