In a lush valley a couple of miles in from the coast, long hours of sunshine and rich soil allow plants to grow in profusion. The English owner discovered this old wine farm in ruins in the early 70s and put in a fair bit of patient restoration and planting. It's a now place of peace and privacy. Behind the whitewashed outer wall the cottages stand apart from one another facing the gardens and, tucked away beyond, is an enormous round swimming pool known as 'the library'... total tranquillity. Each cottage has a terrace for sun and shade, a barbecue, a kitchen with a microwave and hob, a sitting room and double or twin bedroom with a shower: perfect for two. A mix of good art and 'jumble sale' finds, pretty dried flowers, eucalyptus beams and terracotta give a country feel, while mementos from Africa and Turkey add an exotic note. But what is most striking is the greenery: olive, pomegranate, almond and lemon trees flourish above a glistening abundance of flowers. A local shop and three restaurants are within walking distance, and the climate is benign all year.
