Unforgivable not to make the most of a panorama like this. And the designers of the little pink-washed house have done just that: house, terrace and pool are positioned for maximum effect. Behind and to either side is wild, green mountainside; ahead, vistas to Africa. La Herradura, owned by Sally next door, has been newly built in an unobtrusive, rustic style, while flair and imagination have created an effect of rural simplicity tempered with sophistication inside. Pastel colours and floral bedheads glow gently against creamy pink walls. In the airy, open-plan living room are a big woven rug, burnished old floor tiles, original artwork and lots of books; a sofa and armchairs tossed with throws are grouped companionably around the fireplace, and the chestnut-beamed ceiling slopes down towards two sets of double doors that open onto the terrace. Sally always leaves an amazing hamper, including first night's supper, in the kitchen/dining area – but you'll be eating al fresco whenever you can. Outside: jacuzzi and pool, poised on the very edge of the hillside; beyond: those breathtaking views.
