Special Places to Stay - More than a bed for the night

Follow a track through lush vineyards to these apartments; they glow among the starkly beautiful volcanic landscape of La Geria. The low white buildings welcome you with their stylish and uplifting lines. Inside, exposed stone and inner gardens add drama to coral sofas, tiled floors and sleek white walls. Whitewashed bedrooms and neutral furnishings are lightened with gorgeous splashes of colour, while modern-rustic bathrooms offer waffle robes. A turquoise lagoon pool (toddlers have one too) sparkles amid palms and yuccas, an idyllic spot for a sunset glass of wine. Help yourself to the honesty bar, barbecue by the pool, dine on your terrace. Kitchens are well-equipped, but do ask Tarnya about restaurants, markets and the best wines; a Spanish platter can be arranged on arrival. Richard and Tarnya are passionate about the island and are the kindest hosts; little Joss and a wagging dog complete the family feel. It's hard to tear yourself away from the pool, but the beaches are an easy drive. There's hiking in winter and spring, and surfing and cultural delights all year round.
