A cork farmer built this sweet 1950s farmhouse for his bride, in the middle of cork woods with stunning views over the hills; drink in the fabulous fresh air. Now Kathrin lives in the farmhouse just behind. These two cosy self-contained apartments echo her warm, kind, generous character and Swiss origins. The upper space is the lighter of the two, but both have fresh white walls, long sofas and spotless little kitchens. In the bedrooms, bright walls are stencilled, beds chunky and comfy, and windows open to sun and birdsong. You can pick at will from Kathrin's abundant organic garden, stock up at the markets or treat yourself to a little restaurant three miles away. Find shade under a cork tree, splash in the pretty pool, wander the garden perfumed by citrus trees. There's a terrace for a breezy beer and a cosy fireplace for winter, heating from solar panels and water from a nearby well. Gerona lies one way, the Costa Brava the other, and in between are easy walks linking perfect villages – just the thing in autumn and spring. In summer, there's a fiesta every weekend. Ideal for families and nature lovers.
