You can rent the cottage independently in summer – allowing you private access to pool, tennis court and grounds – or rent it in conjunction with the big house for one big party of ten. Inside are three comfortable, classical bedrooms, two upstairs (one with floor-to-ceiling book shelves so you feel you're in a library), another – teenager-private – on the ground floor. Two steps away is a summer kitchen, rustic chic and luxuriously equipped; a cool summer sitting room with satellite TV; and a wonderful Moroccan-style loggia, with a dining table for six and chunky low beams. The property managers, charming and courteous, are experts on Trujillo's rich history. Ask them about walking, birdwatching, fishing... or unwind in your terraced gardens amid lush secret nooks. Dip in the long azure pool, marvel at the 180° views, drink to the sunsets.
