Step down from Glastonbury’s scurrying streets to a stylish studio and delightful walled garden. Cathie, Michael (and dog!) live in the wisteria’d Georgian building above and welcome you into this cool self-catering hideaway for two. Thick walls encase the vaulted open-plan studio, where bright cushions contrast with white walls and light-coloured wood, and seagrass rugs rest on laminate floors. Cathie prepares high-tea for your arrival, the kitchen is impeccably equipped for whipping up dinner, there’s a king-size bed for a delicious night’s sleep and soft towels to dry off from a long soak in the tub. Best of all is to sit out in the exuberant walled garden, a green, flower-filled oasis in the centre of town; pick fresh herbs from the vegetable patch and sip wine on the swinging bench. Glastonbury’s attractions – its magnificent Abbey and Tor, its high street of butchers, bakers and candlestick-makers, its glorious eccentricity – surround you. And there’s nearly always some kind of festival going on. Great value for such a central, comfortable spot, and run by a caring owner.
