Ditch the car and walk to everything from one of Bath’s finest Regency terraces. This Grade I- listed house has been so beautifully restored that the BBC filmed it for Persuasion; period hand-printed wallpaper, marquina marble and views over the park as you lounge in the grand drawing room.
Julian and Mechthild love welcoming guests into their home. Join them for breakfast in the convivial family kitchen, or in the plant-filled conservatory. Mechthild will serve a full English or Austrian continental – cold meats from the local butcher, cheeses, fresh rye breads, homemade cakes and maybe Austrian coffee.
The park is opposite, the canal behind; hire bikes and cycle nine miles down the flat tow path to Bradford-on-Avon for antiques and a pint by the river. The Holburne Museum is around the corner or stroll 15 minutes to the Jane Austen Centre. Explore the Roman Baths and modern thermae spa before a cream or champagne tea and live orchestra music at the Pump Rooms.
