Style and substance go hand in hand at this art-filled boutique hotel and spa, where rooms are hard to beat and Bath lies on your doorstep

You’re on the grandest street in Bath, once home to Jane Austen; the Holburne Museum of Art stands at one end, Robert Adam’s famous Pulteney Bridge at the other. As for No.15, this is a quirky boutique hotel that doubles as a contemporary art gallery. You’ll find collections of curios all over the place, coffee machines hidden away in dolls houses in bigger rooms. Bedrooms are sumptuous, some smaller, others enormous, each with an original piece of art on the walls. Several have exposed plaster walls, all have Hypnos mattresses and beautiful bathrooms, perhaps a copper basin, a walk-in shower or a claw-foot bath. Vast suites flood with light courtesy of high windows, while a help-yourself larder waits on the landing for popcorn, soft drinks and ice cream. There’s a sitting-room bar for coffee and cocktails, then the stylish Café 15 for Prosecco ‘on the house’ at breakfast, perhaps a feisty fish pie at lunch and delicious dinners from Tuesday to Saturday. The hotel is a work in progress: treatment rooms, a small garden and a car park are on the way. Good restaurants are a short stroll. Hard to beat.
