Everyone loves this pub minutes from the beach. The décor is fresh, contemporary and open-plan and the food is consistently brilliant. Whether it’s poached skate wing terrine, a chargrilled rib-eye with hand-cut chips, or a blackboard special (slow-braised lamb with spiced cabbage and garlic mash perhaps) this is a serious destination for those who love British food. The friendly team has created a balanced mix of drinking bar frequented by locals and dining area decked with modern art. It’s all down to experienced restaurateur Ben McKeller who’s created the first in the funky, family-friendly Gingerman group. Upstairs: two floors of elegant new rooms with state-of-the-art bathrooms. Ginger cocktails await, as do super-comfy beds and posh coffee machines. The paved, sheltered garden is a little oasis. Breakfast (not included) can be taken in the pub’s dining room and includes treats such as roast tomato rarebit and ham hock hash topped by a fried egg. Wander down to the seafront for a dose of ozone, or pop to Brighton for the buzz.
