The Kings Arms

Amersham, Buckinghamshire
Pub with rooms

Quintessentially English inn with cosy bar and cheery staff - stay in original beamed rooms, perhaps in the old stables, or modern doubles

37 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 4

Step in the footsteps of former guest Oliver Cromwell as you stroll along Amersham’s classy High Street and turn in under the archway, as customers have done since the fifteenth century. Horses were once changed here in the cobbled courtyard, while guests alighted from their carriages for vittles. Much more recently the Kings Arms has featured in scenes for ‘Midsomer Murders’ and ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’. This lovely Tudor pub retains its historic roots, particularly in the snug bar with cosy seating areas, fire nooks and bare wood floors – black leather chairs and touches of purple velvet give it a modern twist. A new extension behind adds twenty smart bedrooms along a long corridor; for a more authentic inn stay, ask for a room in the stable block or main building, all dark wood furniture and beams, perhaps a four poster.  Welcoming staff and friendly Irish owner David offer Brakspear and Rebellion beers on tap, and classic pub food. Fabulous for a weekend – check out David’s hand painted map on the wall for local walks, discover the shops in this delightful market town or explore the Chilterns.
