The
Experience

Meander through Penzance’s cobbled backstreets, discover a rambling mews courtyard enclosed by high walls: wonderful and atmospheric. Then through the arched doorway to a secret courtyard garden, cobbled and 17th century (once home to mules carrying tin ore from St Just). Behind the smart black door is a wonderful country-modern kitchen of cream units and solid oak worktops, where homemade cake and flowers sit on the pretty table. Up a couple of steps: a big open-plan living space – a round table, a red sofa, a flame-effect wood-burner, pale painted floorboards and a deep, slate window sill – a warm stylish décor with a romantic feel. The Art Deco saltwater Baths and the Promenade are two minutes away; continue west to the village of Newlyn for the catch of the day… or hike to Land’s End. Return to a restful bedroom with a romantic cream iron bed, a travertine-floored bathroom with a massage shower and a pretty table for al fresco dining. All feels charming and luxurious. A five minute stroll down the hill: eclectic chapel street with it’s shops, cafés and quirky galleries. Heaven for couples!

Reviews

Abbey Stables is an absolute gem, hidden away in the quietest spot but just a minute or two on foot from the centre of Penzance. It was immaculately presented and very well equipped with all you need. The photos don’t really do it justice. We appreciated being able to walk to the station to travel to St Ives and had some fabulous coastal walks, too. We’d definitely recommend it.

We stayed at Abbey Stables over New Year and couldn't have chosen a better place to escape to. The cottage is the perfect winter bolthole - so cosy, beautifully designed and spacious. It's tranquil location in a pretty courtyard was perfect, and we found it the perfect base for exploring the stunning beaches, walks, and villages of South West Cornwall. We will definitely stay again.

We loved our stay at Abbey Stables; the cottage is immaculate and very well appointed - we had everything we needed. It feels so secluded and private, but in a few minutes you can walk to the centre of town, or drive to the motorway to explore West Cornwall. It was lovely to arrive to homemade cake and fresh flowers, and throughout our week it really was a home away from home. Eating breakfast with the stable door open and a view of the lovely walled garden was a perfect start to every day. Nick and Rod are great hosts - communication was excellent both when booking and during our stay.

We had a wonderfully relaxing visit to Abbey Stables. The property was beautifully presented and the owners left a wealth of information about the local area and most importantly tea and cake! The central location was excellent and we were in close proximity to good transport links and lovely cafes. We would definitely recommend a visit to abbey Stables.

We had a great time at Abbey Stables. It's hard to imagine a better place for a holiday cottage to view Cornwall from. The house was immaculate when we arrived. All of the bedding was comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the bathroom beautifully done!

Bob

The apartment was absolutely beautiful so much so that we more of it than Cornwall. We've never stayed in the same place twice but that corks change having stayed here.

Robert

Excellent stay. Abbey Stables is very comfortable and we appreciated excellent mattress on bed and great shower

It’s always difficult leaving feedback when you find a little jewel, but it’s selfish not to let someone else share your experience, so here goes! Abbey Stables is owned by a couple whose aim is to please, and they certainly got that one right. It’s beautifully decorated, quirky, cosy, comfortable, spotless and a joy to return to at the end of the day. From the time you open the gate to your “secret garden” you’re in your element. We were met with freshly baked cake, fresh flowers and a gift of local biscuits and chocolate, perfect. It was hard to pack and leave. Enjoy.
