The Experience

The surf crashes against the rocks, seabirds wheel overhead and cattle low in the fields – you’re a mile along the cliff path from all the bustle of town. Escape down a lane off the St Ives to Zennor road and find this granite cottage in a small hamlet looking out to sea, backed by some of West Cornwall’s highest hills.

Calming, French-accented interiors feel elegant but the kids will be in their element – the old smuggling tunnel encased in glass under the kitchen floor will fire little imaginations, and a slide and swings wait in the garden. It’s all about getting outdoors and running wild here, with walks aplenty from the doorstep.

Head along to glorious Porthminster beach, gallery hop in St Ives and dip into its buzzing restaurant scene, or if the weather is foul just hunker down around the cottage’s wood-burner and enjoy the views.

Reviews

Lovely place, perfectly equipped in a beautiful location. Coastal walks direct from the house and much to do in the local area. Lovely walk in to St Ives and fantastic restaurants nearby. Host was a pleasure to deal with and welcome basket was welcome! Had a wonderful, relaxing, eight day stay.

Miles, London

We loved this cottage! It’s on a beautiful spot with sea views and you can walk to St.Ives on a spectacular coast path (much better than driving by car). In the kitchen is an old smuggler’s hiding place. They restored the house very beautiful!

Liesbeth, Zeist

Thank you Natalia, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your cottage. It was the perfect place for our visit to Cornwall and we could walk into the beautiful town of St Ives and enjoy the coastal scenery.

Carmen, Newstead, Tasmania

My husband and I spent 8 days at this fabulous cottage in May 2023, and leave with many happy memories of our time here and in Cornwall. While we had many wonderful meals at restaurants, our best meals were at the cottage (and its well-appointed kitchen) followed by watching spectacular sunsets over the sea from our windows. Natalia's recommendations were excellent, and she was the perfect host, including providing us with a welcome basket of local eggs, bread and milk for our first breakfast. Baragwainaith is a magical place, and we are so grateful that we got to spend time there.

JODY, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

Baragwainaith is in a perfect location if you want to enjoy all the benefits of St Ives but avoiding traffic and parking. The cottage is spacious, yet cosy and has everything you need. A comfy bed is a must have for us and that's exactly what we got with the added benefit of a lovely view to the sea to wake up to. We weren't there long enough to enjoy the garden or the log fire - hopefully next time we will stay for longer.

Kay, Warwick

A really fantastic spot to unwind and take a deep breath, with views over fields to the dramatic coastline and the sea, although there are other buildings nearby it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. The coast path runs right past the property and St Ives is only a 10 minute drive away so you really have the best of both worlds here.

Naomi, Sawday's Inspector

Beautiful cottage in an amazing, peaceful location just outside of St Ives. Stunning views from the garden, and great walks on your doorstep. Had everything our 2 year old needed, including a swing in the garden. Natalia very helpful and prompt with all replies, we’ll be back!

Phil, Bristol

Fabulous location outside St Ives, but minutes from it (although the claim of a 35 minute walk was rather optimistic for an average walker!). Cottage very tastefully furnished and has everything that could be needed, including for a toddler. Natalia was really prompt with responding to questions. Great stay and will return.

Tim, Nottingham

Fabulous stay in this beautiful cottage lovely views and short walk to St Ives. Perfect for families and host was so welcoming. Highly recommend.

Chris, England

The cottage is wonderful - full of character, a lot of thought into the furnishings and the location couldn’t have been better. Sea views and just a 30 minute walk into St Ives through fields. Natalia was brilliant in answering any queries and very prompt. 5 stars and highly recommend.

Chris

A heavenly spot, an immaculately comfortable, gorgeous home. We had a wonderful holiday here and will eagerly book again.

Sarah, Bath

We had the most wonderfult time in Baragwainaith! The cottage is just as beautiful as in the pictures, in fact even more so. All rooms are comfortable and stylish, the kitchen is great and the sea views are amazing. We fully enjoyed being in the middle of the fields, just behind the coast path, and very close to St. Ives. We cannot wait to come back!

Esther, Prague

A well presented, clean, characterful, treasure of a place to top off a St Ives vacation. Full of style, and just big enough for a family of 4, or 5 at a squeeze. Situated just outside town in a tiny hamlet, providing welcomed solitude and peacefulness at the end of the day. Beautifully finished with style and personal touch, complete with all required amenities- even the travel plugs were welcome. Superbly clean on arrival.

Keith, Texas, United States

This family home is simply great, cosy and comfortable and provides all the amenities we needed. Located a few minutes outside of St.Ives it is a good base to explore all the spots in the south-west of Cornwall. We were sad to leave and do hope to come back one day.

Marco

This is a lovely homely and beautifully kitted-out home from home. Great location just outside St Ives and in a wonderfully quiet spot. We loved the sea view from the master bedroom. The sunsets were amazing from here. Our son loved the books, large selection of games and toys in the house. A great touch for children. We were sad to leave and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Natalia's home to families looking for a stylish home from home.

Prue

We booked the holidays impromptu because we needed a break as a family, and Baragwainaith turned out to be the perfect place for us. The cottage is perfectly equipped with everything one needs for holiday comfort, from squishy sofas to audio equipment and a dishwasher. Most importantly, everything was exactly as described and pictured on the Sawdays website, only the original is more lovely than photos can ever be. The views from the garden and the windows are truly stunning. We took our teenage children who had a good time on the St.Ives beach.

The neighbourhood

It’s tempting to stay super local and soak up the beauty on your doorstep here, but you’ll want to walk the mile to St Ives and its famous galleries, with the Tate, Barbara Hepworth’s studio, and countless smaller places to discover. Find your favourite from the selection of family-friendly beaches locally – Porthminster, Porthmeor and Porthgwidden – catering for everyone from surfers to the bucket-and-spade brigade. Or walk the coastal path in the other direction towards wilder Zennor, where you can refuel with good food and drink at the Tinner’s Arms or the famous Gurnard’s Head.

Introducing

Natalia Byng

Natalia, her partner and children live in London, so you’ll be left alone at Baragwainaith. They initially drove 300 miles overnight with two small children in tow to view the cottage - their retreat from the city - and weren’t disappointed when they arrived. Natalia understands what makes a great family holiday and enjoys adding the special touches that make the house feel like home for other families, too.
