The
Experience

Drop down a quiet lane to enter your own private quay, home to a couple of lucky people and a fishing boat. It’s a privileged spot you may not wish to leave: river views from every window and a waterfront balcony from which to spy the birds and clock the tides. Inside: lots of family history and artefacts to enjoy, and a pleasing mix of new and traditional. The kitchen is a wrap-around affair: all pine units, quarry tiles and a sink with a view, and there’s a panelled ‘cabin snug’ for cosy meals. The jaunty white and blue bathroom passes the closest inspection, and bedrooms vary: a big wooden sleigh bed in one, twins or bunks in the others. You also have the option to spread out and take the super-private double room off the kitchen, reached through an internal hall with locking doors. Brunch on the balcony, try a little light rowing, take an afternoon siesta, feast on fresh fish delivered right to the quayside. Canoe, sail, borrow a motor boat, visit the Helford River gardens, set off on a clifftop walk, mosey round the art galleries of Penzance. Marvellous!

Reviews

We loved our (New Year) stay. The house is so cosy even in the storms, and it is lovely being so close to the water! We went out on the kayaks every day which was fab! The motor boat was great fun and it was nice to explore the river in it. We even managed a quick swim without wetsuits! Holly the dog particularly enjoyed jumping in with us. A lovely comfortable home - Thank you

We had no idea that Bishops Quay would be as perfect as it has turned out to be. A last minute booking over bank holiday should have meant a compromise but we found PERFECTION! On arrival we were delighted with the home bakes, fresh eggs and a warm welcome from Kate. All of us have enjoyed staying here and the local area. The peace and quiet makes a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of our usual lives. The Ship Inn - Excellent, The Shipwrights - Excellent, Kate’s Bakes - Excellent! Many Thanks for all your effort. p.s. dog had fun too.

Nothing quite prepared us for the reality of this unique and stunning location. A warm welcome from Kate and some delicious cakes and eggs were just the thing to get us started. We adored the location, the wildlife and the tranquillity. We had lovely outings on the river in the kayaks, motorboat and rowing boat. The children loved bird spotting - especially the kingfisher - and we had a very successful crabbing session. We would love to come back. We kayaked through the mist on the last morning. Silent except the call of birds and the splash of fish and paddles. The sun burned the mist away.

What an idyllic spot; we so enjoyed the stunning views, particularly from the pink bedroom window seat. Your home was so beautifully equipped with everything we could possibly need and it was so lovely to feel very much part of a family home, with heart and soul. The cake and flowers, handwritten, logs for the fire and toys for our children were much appreciated personal touches. Our dog was in heaven here and our children 2 and 1, adored all our activities. Such a perfect part of unspoilt England and especially in your most magical place, we shall be back!

This is a lovely, cosy house in a great location. It has breathtaking views throughout the day, but especially during the sunset. The house has all the comforts that one might need. All rooms have many decorative items, loads of books, games and vases of flowers everywhere. The owners, Kate and Ben made every effort to make us feel welcome. We very much appreciated the welcome tray of cream tea and delicious flapjacks on our arrival after a long drive. My daughter loved kayaking and the boats. She is already looking forward to our next holiday at Bishops Quay.

Bishop's Quay is a lovely house in the most wonderful, magical setting on the river. Staying there feels like time stops still for a moment. It is so peaceful with birds and fishing boats for company, stunning views from every window and cosy fires at night. We have had the most relaxing and fun week with incredible walks and fantastic boating of every sort- from kayaks to sailing to motor. Ben and Kate are so welcoming in every way- they went out of their way to ensure our stay was as perfect as possible- we honestly can't wait to go back!

We had a really comfortable, relaxing, enjoyable week at Bishops Quay. The location on the estuary is outstanding and the house takes full advantage of it with wonderful views of the river from every window and a wide long balcony outside the sitting room. Kate was an absolute pleasure to deal with right from the start and went out of her way to make sure we were all looked after. The house is set up in a generous, comfortable way and we enjoyed a blazing log fire each night after lovely days getting to know the local area and taking lots of pictures. Bliss!
