The Experience

There have been dwellings at Botelet since Domesday with the Tamblyns being perfect custodians for the last 150 years; the sense of timelessness in this deep country setting is palpable. Feel your 21st-century worries drift away as you approach – thick grass in the middle of the lane, fecund hedgerows, lines of oak and the first sight of the farm overlooking a pristine valley.

The two cottages have been thoughtfully put together, carefully enhancing what was already there – low beams, old fireplaces, ancient flags. You’ll find the basics for cooking in the kitchens and your children will love the free-roaming chickens and having so many acres of car-free land to romp around in.

Wellbeing treatments here include massage and meditation and occasional retreats. If you must venture out in search of surf, sand and sea, Fowey and Polperro are close and the north coast is 35 minutes.

Cowslip cottage is a total haven and feels so homely. It's beautiful interior, cosy touches and location make it the perfect choice to get away. Tia's website is awesome, covering everything you could possibly need to know, leaving no stone un turned of the local area. Get booking! Thank you so much x

We really loved staying at Manor Cottage. It is the prettiest historical cottage and set in such beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Walking down to the stream in the rain to forage for wild garlic, or enjoying a glass of wine in the sunny evening garden surrounded by bluebells, or sitting cosy by the log burner with friends were highlights. Loved the chickens strolling around and waking to the sound of sheep and bird song. We made great trips to local beaches, fishing villages and gardens. The house is exactly like the pictures and well equipped for everything ...We really enjoyed our stay.

Tia was an amazing host and the cottage is just stunning ! We have had the privilege of staying in some fantastic airbnbs over the years however this one is my favourite - there really is something magical about the place. It’s like you’re stepping back in time and the world just stops for you to breathe! Absolute bliss and will make sure to return!

A magical cottage tucked away in a quiet rural spot with beautiful sunset views. The cottage had a cosy wood burner and was really toasty. Beds were really comfortable and the cottage was very well equipped, especially the kitchen. A real retreat but close to some amazing beaches and coastal walks. The host Julie could not have been more helpful. We would highly recommend coming!

Manor Cottage is our favourite Cornish fairytale destination and has so much personal significance for us. There is nothing comparable to arriving at Manor Cottage with the wood burner glowing after a long journey. The interior is an extremely rare combination of taste and cosiness, and Tia, Julie and Richard are always the most wonderful hosts.

My wife and I stayed at Botelet Farm for four nights in September (also six nights in October). Both of our times there were in the Manor Cottage. The cottage has ample facilities for up to 5 people. The kitchen is well equipped and the clothes washer is a real plus. The location, in the eastern part of Cornwall, is ideal for exploring both Cornwall and Devon. The Tamblyn family, owners of the Botelet Farm, live on site and are very committed to helping visitors during their stay.

Botelet truly is a magical, unpretentious yet still-stylish place in a secluded spot far from the stresses of life - but not far from all the lovely de-stresses Cornwall has to offer (beach and country walks, great eateries, beautiful authentic villages). There’s much to do at the farm too, with massages for us and yoga and art and egg collecting for the kids, and the Tamblyns too are charm personified. We didn’t want to leave our cosy bubble and have pre-booked our return visit next Easter holiday before too many people get in on the secret! A magical bolt hole in every respect.

Everytime we have stayed at Hollow Park we have always experienced a lovely warm welcome, with the little touches that make all the difference. Botelet is a very special place in a beautiful setting and it's always a pleasure to spend time there. There are some gorgeous walks right on your doorstep which we have enjoyed. On our last visit I also had a wonderful massage with Tia which really was truly relaxing. We have always left feeling rested and revived.

Our stay at Manor cottage was wonderful... we arrived to a warm cosy cottage with the wood-burner on and afternoon tea laid out on the table for us. The owners have a great sense of style and there are lots of lovely touches (I loved the fairy lights over our bed for cosy evenings and up-to-date magazines in the living room which I never buy for myself so was a real treat to curl up on the sofa and have a leaf through.) Botelet is set in rolling hills and patchwork fields, a beautiful spot. Night skies are crammed with stars, buckets of fresh air, wonderful walks. A very special place indeed.

We're about to return to Botelet for our 3rd stay at Manor Cottage which says it all. The place is beautiful - rustic, cosy, stylish and tranquil and the owners are utterly charming. We love visiting Cornwall in the Winter and along with our two children have come to regard Botelet as our home away from home. We found out about it on a Sawdays newsletter and feel incredibly fortunate to have stumbled across it!

My husband and I stayed for 10 days in June in the utterly peaceful and very charming, very comfortable and well equipped " Cowslip Cottage ". On waking up after our first night the view of the lush green meadows opposite and the use of the cottage's delightful garden were JUST what we needed to unwind ! There is much to do and see in this part of Cornwall so we were out a lot discovering the area..but it was such a pleasure to return back to Cowslip..Utter BLISS and thank you Julie for our stay... Location

The neighbourhood

You've 300 acres of fields, woodland, pretty streams and an iron age hill fort to explore here. Further afield you'll find wild moorland and coastal paths so walkers and children will be very happy here. If you must get in the car then Lostwithiel is a short drive.

Local points of interest from Tamblyn Family .

  • Book a therapeutic massage or wellbeing workshop in our cosy on-site therapy room - the perfect way to unwind after a busy day exploring.
  • Walk up to Bury Down hill fort at Botelet Farm, dating back to the iron age, the fort ramparts are a great spot for picnics and panoramic views. Step out across the 300 acres of rolling fields and deciduous woodlands.
  • Only six miles from the south coast - great for stepping out on the coast path and exploring Cornwall's quiet, hidden beaches. Lantic Bay is a local gem.
  • Fowey is one of our favourite coastal towns with pretty houses overlooking the estuary, some great cafes for families like Pinky Murphys, and restaurants such as Fitzroy.
  • Botelet is 25 minutes from the Eden Project, 30 minutes from the Lost Gardens of Heligan and 15 minutes from the National Trust's magnificent Lanydrock property - visit the historic house and gardens, enjoy the cycle trails, play park and woodland walks.
  • Kayak on the Fowey estuary, spotting wildlife in the peaceful tributaries as part of a small guided tour with local experts. Hire canoes, kayaks or SUPs if you prefer to go solo.

Introducing

Tamblyn Family .

The Tamblyn family have lived at Botelet for 150 years, welcoming guests since the 1930s, when Richard and Julie’s grandmother opened the farmhouse for B&B. Since the 1980s the current generation (Richard and wife Tia, their three young children, Richard’s sister Julie and their parents David and Barbara) have offered self-catering, B&B, yurting and wild meadow camping. They love being surrounded by nature and wildlife - as well soaking up cosmopolitan city life!
