St Ives, Cornwall

A single-storey ode to minimalism tucked in a quiet corner of St Ives - a great base for gallery hopping and beaches

Sleek architectural design, warm-to-the-touch floors, splashes of bright colour; Ispoyntel is a modern take on a Cornish bolthole with lots of lovely glass, light, space and peace just a ten-minute stroll from the bustle of town.

For families or friends this swish L-shaped house is perfect, with the Tate Modern on the doorstep and the Hepworth Sculpture Gallery worth a wander. Dipping a toe is possible at four sandy beaches within walking distance (you’ll find buckets and spades at the house). Couples seeking a low-maintenance escape will relish the ease: no need to light log burners, plus a mainline train station a short stroll away if you want to forgo the car.

Leg-loosening walks stretch in all directions; ramble the six coastal miles to Zennor for crab sandwiches by the sea, or take to the moors. Evenings can be spent at a live music spot: the Kettle and Wink grooves almost every night.

Modern, spacious and light-filled open plan kitchen with glass table and white chairs

The neighbourhood

On the edge of St Ives, down a narrow lane and hidden from view until you pull into the driveway – Ispoyntel is very private, surrounded by high fencing and a security gate. The centre of St Ives is a short walk away down the hill and there’s a bus stop outside the leisure centre next door; it runs every 10 minutes if you don’t fancy the slog back.

Local points of interest from Paul & Lesley Dadson

  • You are within walking distance of 4 family friendly sandy beaches, including the famous Porthmeor surfing beach, as well as beach cafes.
  • The world renowned Tate Gallery is next to the beach. The Hepworth Sculpture Garden is also nearby. There are many other galleries to visit. The historic working Leach Pottery is a few minutes up the road and is well worth a visit.
  • There are many lovely walks in the area. Walk to Zennor 6 miles along the coast, either along the coast path or on the field route which is easier but still lovely. Many other great walks in the area.
  • There are restaurants to suit all tastes. Our favourites are the Seafood Cafe, Porthmeor Cafe, Porthminster Cafe, Halsetown Inn and Blas.
  • Many of the pubs in town have live music to suit all tastes. The Kettle and Wink, attached to the Western Hotel is our favourite and there is something on there most nights.
  • Ispoyntel is a modern light and airy, single storey contemporary house which is very comfortable. There are lovely wide patio doors opening to the sunny terrace and with a distant sea view. There is also a garden to the side of the house.

Paul & Lesley Dadson

Paul and Lesley Dadson have been holidaying in St Ives since their children were small and in 2011 bought the plot of land on which the house now sits. The minimalist design is their passion, but they also love the conceptual art and galleries of St Ives. They live in Somerset and won’t be there to meet you, so you can treat this as your home from home.
