The
Experience

Wake under the gabled ceilings of this 17th-century ship’s merchant’s house to the cries of the gulls outside. Gather the family from rooms spread over three floors creaking with beams and brickwork to the warmth of the cosy kitchen and lounge. The battered old pew and deep sofas make for sociable evening meals and board game battles with the wood-burner crackling away, while the kids lay claim to the smaller sitting room hidden up in the rafters.

Take nautically-themed Osbourne House, just a minute away and equally full of character, for the space to invite everyone to stay. Down at the Looe quayside, watch the fishing boats bring in some of the UK’s freshest fish, destined for top local restaurants, or cross the bridge and set off towards Polperro on an 8km walk down the South West Coastal Path. A 9-mile hike inland to Liskeard offers the chance to come back via the old steam train, in use since 1860. Fish & chips are good too. Eat them.

Location

The neighbourhood

Looe is a traditional Cornish fishing village full of charm and character. It's in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with a sheltered sandy beach and deep cove that have made it a perfect harbour for small boats for centuries. It's still a working port to this day, landing the freshest fish in the country and stocking the menus of some of Cornwall's finest restaurants. Life slows down here, but there's also plenty to do with trips to the wildlife sanctuary of Looe island, or walking out to the dog-friendly Talland Bay beach between Looe and Polperro.

Introducing

Peter & Emese Bardi

Peter & Emese stayed in the 17th-century Osborne House in the days when it was a famous restaurant and hotel of the same name. They never dreamed then that one day they would have the privilege of being a more involved part of its long history, which includes, after being a family home for many years, it’s use as a sweet shop. They are dedicated to maintaining the houses for posterity as well as making them great places for guests to stay and their care and attention to detail have won them several awards.
